Another blog down

Just as it was starting to look as though the number of southern mountain-based photoblogs was growing, another dies. Fletch of No Direction Home (which was once called Smokyblog, and then, for awhile, Austin Country Limits) has shut the blog down. He'll be posting some photos to the Allsmokies blog at the Knoxville News.

A cloud of asters..... 

Does anyone know what this is? It looks a bit like a guava, or a small quince (about an inch wide). I photographed one last year but it was a bit too fuzzy to post. There are several on low shrubs at edges of the woods around the house. 

A busy weekend

Found us a little boat to take out exploring. A bit beat up but has a good motor for getting around on the 22 miles of our local lake....

There are only a few houses on this lake, in the Bear Paw development: this is about the only one visible right on the water. What a view. 

Festival weekend

It's the fall festival at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC.

Temporary glitch

If you look at this blog regulary, you may notice the photo at top isn't loading. And if you try the 'local links' link, you'll get an error message. Some of the photos and text is stored on my personal Web site at Earthlink, where they tell me the site has been accessed too many times this month and is shut down until the 1st.
This hasn't happened in the 5 years I've had it, so don't know why it's happening now. One thing that sometimes causes this is people linking to a photo to display on their own websites without downloading it to their own server. If by any chance anyone reading this is doing that, please take the link down. Thanks.

A new blog

The Knoxville News has come up with a new version of its Smokies blog, called AllSmokies. It's now a collaborative blog with contributions from various East Tennessee bloggers, including Fletch of No Direction Home, where I found the link to this one. Check out Fletch's photo of Cosby, TN, from the Foothills Parkway.
