A ride along the river, Citico creek area.
Off the main road, lots to see on the Chota/Jones Island peninsula:
A very special place.
Site of
Chota, once the Cherokee capital.
Monument to Tanasi, just down the peninsula. The state's name came from this.
The site is covered by the river.
This is a beautiful river.
Citico Creek, beautiful too.
Great mountain views from some places along the road.
Someone loved this view enough to put up a flag.
There were monarchs everywhere this weekend.
A nice way to end a beautiful day, around a fire.
I'm trying a new way of posting photos using PicasaWeb rather than Hello, where I have to post each photo separately and can't link them all at once. I like this, but it made the photos too small (which is why I've continued to use Hello til now), but I think I've figured out how to tweak it. I have more photos from this ride, but not enough time to post them all right now. The 'Little Tennessee' link goes to the album online but without captions so far. Will get more of these photos posted -- and captioned -- soon.
